Job summary
The Burnham Lecturer Positioning and Navigation is a member of the management team of the Positioning and Navigation Department which plans and delivers modules on a BSc (Hons) in Military Geospatial Science, recognised by Sheffield Hallam University, and an MSc in Geospatial Intelligence, recognised by Cranfield University. This is in addition to more specialised short courses for Defence. Our output is focussed on delivering Soldiers who are ready for deployment on operations. This means we must train flexible personnel to understand fundamental principles enabling them to tackle issues as they arrive in remote operating environments with little support via reach back.

To achieve this, you will work closely with the military staff to design and deliver an engaging, practical course grounded in military context against the defined training requirements. The mix of your academic and commercial backgrounds working alongside the experience of the military instructors will ensure the soldier departs RSMS with the requisite level of knowledge that they can apply to future postings and operational deployments.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description

As the Burnham Lecturer Positioning and Navigation your main objectives are:

  • provide the academic leadership for the Positioning and Navigation Department for both the MSc and BSc courses. This is to include:
o the design, delivery, and assessing of the relevant modules;
o mentoring and supervision of a number of dissertations;
o organise and run in-house training for the department as part of continuous development of the staff;
  • conduct personal CPD to remain at the forefront of academic and industry thinking. This will enable you to represent RSMS at appropriate events as a Subject Matter Expert.
  • assist in the day-to-day management of the Department.
