JOB DETAIL

At the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn we continue to create a culture where staff feel comfortable speaking up when they have concerns, knowing they will be listened to, and timely and appropriate action taken.

Having previously invested in an Independent Freedom to Speak Up Guardian post we recognise the importance of this role and how it complements the work of our ‘in-house’ Freedom to Speak Up Guardians and support for staff. We are therefore committed to continue this investment in Speak Up, mindful of its centrality to our continuous journey of improvement and culture transformation work, and to ensure we have a resilient service for staff moving forward, building on the good work we have started.

We are therefore recruiting a new Independent Freedom to Speak Up Guardian for 2 days per month to join the current Freedom to Speak Up Guardian team.

You will: -

  • work independently, impartially and objectively, with individuals and groups throughout the organisation
  • work closely with our Lead and Assistant Freedom to Speak Up Guardians
  • support and contribute to the national Freedom to Speak Up Guardian network
  • offer advice/feedback to ensure speaking up policies/processes are effective
  • ensure details of your role are regularly communicated across the organisation
  • remain in regular contact with our Freedom to Speak up Champions
  • provide regular reports
As Independent Freedom to Speak up Guardian your role will be to protect patient safety and the quality of care, improve the experience of staff and promote learning and improvement. You will particularly offer an external/impartial viewpoint for the service and the Trust.

You will ensure that staff are supported to speak up, look to address barriers and promote a positive culture, whilst ensuring issues raised are used as opportunities for learning and improvement.

You will work closely with senior leaders in the organisation and support the Freedom to Speak Up Champions.

You will follow guidance issued by the National Guardian's Office and contribute to the national network of Freedom to Speak up Champion
