Bedfordshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

Senior Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist

North Bedfordshire CAMHS Crisis Pathway

(Adolescent Mental Health & A&E Liaison Crisis Team)

Band 8b

Up to 30 hours per week – permanent

North Bedfordshire CAMHS’ Adolescent Mental Health Team (AMHT) are looking to establish within their service an exciting new role for a Senior Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist.

This senior role will involve management, supervision and consultation responsibilities for the whole AMHT multi-disciplinary team, as well as offering some assessments and specialist interventions to young people. This new post would suit an experienced and innovative Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist; one who has an interest in contributing to the leadership of the AMHT and an interest in developing a wider understanding of psychoanalytic approaches within the team.

The Bedfordshire CAMHS Adolescent Mental Health Team (AMHT) is a multi-disciplinary team working alongside our CAMHS A&E Liaison/Crisis Practitioners within a multi-agency context to provide a high-quality service to children (and their families) presenting with significant risks and complex mental health and behavioural needs. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and organised ACP registered Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist to join our friendly and award-winning professional team.

The post-holder will contribute to and support the senior leadership of the crisis pathway, providing highly specialized assessments and therapeutic interventions whilst undertaking and delivering specialist supervision, consultation and training to members of the team and wider service.

As a senior Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist, you will have the opportunity to consolidate and develop skills in leadership, management, and supervision, alongside carrying a clinical caseload and developing specialist skills in an area of clinical interest. As an 8B, the post-holder will be expected to support the development and profile of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. The post-holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy, self-management and drive with the ability to work well in a team and within the multi-agency environment.

To support you in this role, you will receive regular, separate clinical and management supervision sessions, access to a variety of CPD sessions, and annual performance appraisals. The team is clinically led, and you will also have the opportunity to participate in weekly clinical discussions with the team.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations

The Senior Management Team within Beds CAMHS is committed to staff development: there are regular opportunities for staff to apply for appropriate training courses and to get involved in quality improvement initiatives and new developments in the service, some associated with a higher banding during the time of the project. We also have a significant number of positions in the trust for clinicians up to band 8D, opening up paths for promotion for ambitious members of staff. The East London NHS Trust prioritizes staff wellbeing and we are introducing a range of staff wellbeing initiatives to support this.

This post is based in Bedford, Bedfordshire, close to the M1 and easily reached by rail and car from North London, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire. The clinic also has the added benefit of free parking and all clinicians are supported by very dedicated and efficient administrative staff. Whilst much of the work is based in the clinic, access to a car is essential as some travel will be required to facilitate outreach support at home or other CAMHS/ multi-agency sites.

If you would like the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people, are passionate about delivering high quality care and are committed to personal and professional development we are extremely happy to hear from you.
