This post is a cross college role and flexibility to travel to all centres is required.

Are you already working in education and looking for a new challenge? Or employed in industry and looking to work more closely with your community?

Whether in a teaching & learning role or in one of our specialised Business Support functions, you'll be involved in nurturing and developing the next generation of construction workers, engineers, health workers and countless others.

We're already a successful college, but we're continually striving to be better and do better - be part of our story!

Following a recent restructure to expand and improve our SEND provision, an exciting opportunity has arisen for the SEND Department within the Student Experience Directorate at Kirklees College. The additional positions of SEND Support Worker will provide exceptional student support across all curriculum areas and college sites.

You will be working with our most vulnerable SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) students to support their learning, achievement and progression into adulthood both in and out of the classroom environment. You will have to develop supportive relationships with students whilst remaining professional and deliver strategies to promote/reinforce student self-esteem. You will be required to provide physical and personal care support.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working with young people in an educational capacity and must understand EHCP’s and SEND. It is essential you have knowledge and experience of different learning needs and using strategies to support students to become independent. You will need excellent communication and digital skills and be able to work under the direction of the class tutor and use your own initiative.

The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A\*-C) and a minimum Level 2 Qualification relevant to the post. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.

It’s important that you’re able to demonstrate our College values of Kindness, Unity and Excellence in your role.

Due to the nature of our work, it’s essential you’re committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults

We believe learning is not just for our students: it’s an important part of working here too. Staff development opportunities include a mentoring scheme, financial contributions for external qualifications and skills development for current and aspiring managers. You’ll also have access to a range of staff benefits including an employee assistance programme, retail and leisure discounts and reduced Metro travel.
